Our new bedtime song

Daughter and I are learning to night wean together.... this means that our "regular" nightly routine has changed and continues to change on a nightly basis while we find our groove.

Tonight appears to have been a success. After cuddling with her baby doll for a while downstairs, we all went upstairs and laid down for our nightly nurse and cuddle. Daughter almost fell asleep during nursing, which I'm trying to discourage these days as we try to learn new ways to soothe to sleep, so I nudged her and told her it was time for sleep... which didn't go as seamlessly as one might expect. ;) It's amazing how quickly a dozing baby can sit up in bed and insist that she is NOT tired and does NOT need to go to sleep.

So, we made up the following song together, which Daughter then insisted I sing over and over amidst both our giggles.. who can resist "Do it AGAIN, Mommy!" before the last line is sung? Not I.

The Baby sleeps at night
And the Mommy sleeps at night;
The Daddy sleeps at night
And the Brother sleeps at night.

The Sister sleeps at night
And the Cows sleep at night;
And Everybody sleeps at night.

The Omi sleeps at night
And the Opi sleeps at night;
The Uncles sleep at night
And the Neighbors sleep at night.

The Chickens sleep at night
And the Friends sleep at night;
And Everybody sleeps at night.

After the 549th repetition, she drifted off in a happy sleep, one arm slung over her baby doll, mirroring the way she and I sleep together...my little mini mommy.
