Big Brother's Preschool Cupcakes

Due to the timing of Big Brother's birthday, combined with his visit with his dad, preschool, and the death of my grandmother, resulted in his having not one but three fourth birthday parties. He was quite pleased. :)

For preschool, I made a batch of Rainbow Cupcakes, which were apparently quite the hit. Though a little more time consuming to make than plain cupcakes, these were surprisingly simple to prepare and definitely worth the extra few minutes.

Five bowls of colored cupcake mix:

Layered mix spooned into each cupcake paper (I had a heck of a time getting the colors evenly distributed, but every cupcake got at least a touch of each color):

They smelled wonderful, but I didn't dare eat any because I wanted to make sure there were enough for the kids at Big Brother's school... I'll have to make another batch one of these days. Oh, and the below picture doesn't show it (I was too tired when I finished frosting to take a picture!;), but I topped them with un-tinted buttercream frosting. I debated rainbow sprinkles, for a moment, but Husband and I decided that those weren't as classy...
